[ENG] Who is "Gerry" Roche ?
"Gerry" Roche, the legendary recruiter of Heidrick & Struggles, was the true inspiration long before our company's founding moment.
Known as the "Recruiter of the Century" Mr. Roche is the Marvin Bower of McKinsey, Stephen Schwarzman of Blackstone, and Don Valentine of Sequoia - true pioneer of the industry.
Throughout his storied career, Mr. Roche executed countless placements working with industry titans including Bob Iger (Disney), Jack Welch (GE), and Steve Jobs (Apple). His influence even extended to the National Football League (NFL), where the NFL sought his expertise to identify their next commissioner.
The secret to his extraordinary success was his unique recruiting philosophy at the time: identifying the "intangibles". This may sound a bit abstract but looking beyond one's resume is still the most critical - and rarest - skill in recruitment today.
While Mr. Roche passed away in 2018 at the age of 87 (only 3 years after this retirement), his philosophy lives on.
In the age of AI, organizations are facing critical changes and recruiting the right talent has never been more complex. Simultaneously, talent finds it increasingly difficult to demonstrate their true potential and competence.
As Mr. Roche used his extraordinary skill to connect great organizations with great individuals, Gerry is carrying his legacy forward - pioneering the next era of recruitment.
